Aston Villa vs Hull City Odds & Preview
April 20, 2010 in Sport Previews
This month, sports betting is open to all sorts of fans with a variety of events to take in. Baseball is only a few weeks old, but MLB odds are available daily for every game. Meanwhile, two leagues head towards a championship; NBA playoff betting is open for the first round and beyond, and the same goes for the NHL. Round one series are switching venues, and Red Wings versus Coyotes odds are up in a match that seems destined for a pivotal Game Seven.
Meanwhile, English Premiership is winding down the season with exciting matches between teams vying for key positions. Both Aston Villa and Hull City are in desperate need for points, but for very different reasons.
Aston Villa sits in seventh position with 58 points—one point behind Liverpool and four behind Manchester City, both of whom hold qualifying position for the Europa League. Aston Villa has a leg up, however, on Liverpool with one game in hand.
The Villains travel to Kingston Communications Stadium to take on Hull City, a team also in need of three points to move up. The Tigers, however, are at the bottom of the in the relegation zone with 28 points, three back of West Ham United and six back of Wolverhampton. Hull City still has hopes to avoid relegation with four games left (with only one on the road) to West Ham United’s three.
The Tigers will have to win without defender Anthony Gardner on Wednesday as he continues to recover from an ankle injury suffered two months ago. Gardner returned to practice this week, but manager Iain Dowie says he will sit, and may return on Saturday for a match against Sunderland.
Gardner is among the lengthy list of Hull injuries, including Bernard Mendy, Dean Marney, Caleb Folan, and Ian Ashbee, among others. Matt Duke and Tom Cairney will play after performing well in a scoreless draw against Birmigham last week.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, will start the same lineup that prevailed last weekend against Portsmouth, 2-1. In 34 matches, the Villains have scored 48 goals to Hull City’s 32. The only potential setback may be rumours that could serve as a distraction to the team. It has been suspected that midfielder James Milner, who has two years left on his contract with Villa, may be targeted by Manchester United this summer with a hefty payout.
“James is still under contract with us and it’s a case of dampening fires that weren’t there in the first place,” said manager Martin O’Neill. “We want the best players to stay here at Aston Villa so we can keep the momentum going.”
The Villains have not lost in their last three matches, earning seven points, as they look to keep the pace up facing the Tigers at Hull City.
Betting lines: The Villains are the road favorites and rightly so. They have been equally successful playing away as they have at home, earning eight victories and 29 of their 58 points this season. However, the Tigers have played well at home, winning six and drawing five, and look to get comfor playing three of their final four games at home. They have a real shot at moving out of the relegation zone, and need to earn points in front of their own fans. Look for the Tigers to play tough and earn a draw against the Villains.
